The Cycladic island of Ios will be hosting the experimental “Travel Massive Island Unconference” on July 18-26, bringing together tourism sector professionals to collaborate and share ideas on how to make a positive impact and to explore the island’s sustainable future. The event will be held by Travel Massive, the world’s largest community of travel industry insiders, and is the highlight of the “Luxurios Storytelling Project” of LuxurIOS Island Experience.
Whether you’re a CEO, start-up, tour operator, video artist, blogger, journalist, consulting company or PR agency, you are invited to participate in the event, which promises to be both business and pleasure with a series of parallel events including parties and happenings.
Participants will get the chance meet and connect with travel insiders, leaders and innovators, join workshops and informative sessions. For three days, the event will focus on video and creative content, sustainability and local tours aimed at providing a hands-on experience of a destination. On the last day, a wrap-up from each workshop will present input.

The Luxurios Storytelling Project
The “Travel Massive Island Unconference” is part of the “Luxurios Storytelling Project” which sees digital story tellers from around the world presenting Ios.
Leading new media influencers from Europe, Brazil and the US, will become acquainted with Ios — for the whole month of July and on a week rotation — enjoying the hospitality, participating in special events, swimming the island’s crystal waters and sampling local delicacies.
The event is jointly organized by LuxurIOS Island Experience, Travel Concept Solution and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).
Travel Massive buys a Greek Island was the headline that kicked it off, and they developed the idea on Facebook, where they announced the first meetup on their private island. Within minutes 70 people had signed up, and the original post got more traffic, shares and likes than anything they've published!
Then, a real Greek island, the island of Ios, got interested and invited Travel Massive to develop a digital marketing initiative with them.
The resulting collaboration is a digital storytelling project that runs for the whole month of July, rotating visits from top new media influencers (mostly vloggers & Youtubers) from Europe, Brazil and the USA, on a weekly basis. While they are on the island they will attempt to get under the skin of the island by experiencing not only the nightlife that Ios in known for, with top international DJ's and venues, but also the island's beaches, gastronomy and cosmopolitan culture.
The highlight of the project will be The Travel Massive Island - Unconference from 18th - 26th July, a first-of-its-kind event in Greece.
The aim of the "Unconference" is to gather together travel industry experts, leaders, and innovators along with adventurous travel content creators to share knowledge and create ideas that can make a positive impact in travel for the island of Ios, in a sustainable way.
The lead players are: LuxurIOS Island Experience, an Ios-based hospitality company with Agalia Luxury Suites an SLH Boutique Hotel and a variety of lounges and venues on the island; and the Cape Town based media & marketing agency Travel Concept Solution, run by Simon Lewis who is one of Travel Massive's Global Team.
The unique nature of this tourism initiative, which is supported by the Greece National Tourist Office (GNTO), is something they are keen to highlight.
"This is not just a blog trip," says Simon, "we want to show that Greece, that is getting all this bad publicity [about its finances] is actually trying to do something different and original."
They are certainly doing that, not least because the Unconference is attracting interest from some major destination marketing professionals from around the world who are keen to attend, even though it's not their destination!

This is an experimental Travel Massive concept. We want to bring a cross section of our global community together to meet, collaborate and share and ideas on how to re brand and market a Greek Island for the future.
Keep in mind that this event is neither a big party, nor an official tourism event. It’s a gathering of creative tourism professionals, who want to do something useful and innovative, while having fun and enjoying the amazing Ios Island in the same time.
Ios is a world famous Greek Island close to Mykonos and Santorini. It is known as a party island but has a lot more to offer – and we want you to help us expose the island and its secrets. You can easily get to the Island by ferry from airports in Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros-Crete, Ιkaria or Milos.
Travel Massive Island will start on 18th July and finish on 26th July after a party featuring international DJ's. However, the official program will be held from Tuesday, 21st to Saturday, 25th of July (see details below).

FORMAT & THEME:
3 days of a self-organising, participant-driven “Unconference” (see:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference). In order for the event to be successful everyone should be willing to share their knowledge and ideas and be ready to help out.
The Unconference will focus on three key themes:
1. Video and creative content
Hailed as the future of content, how can emerging video platforms document and share the visitor experience? Calling presenters, filmmakers, YouTubers and aspiring actors. Let's create something inspiring.
We make an impact everywhere we go. What sustainability practices can we learn from an island with two thousand inhabitants and how can we improve the communities we visit? Calling responsible tourism experts, advocates, leaders and innovators.
3. Local tours
How can "living like a local" provide a more valuable and authentic experience of a destination and change its perception to a visitor? Calling tour operators, tour startups, and local guides.
This event is part of a project by www.luxurios.com and there rebranding strategy. As a result of the event, we expect to get both creative content and great ideas on the destination marketing and branding. However, the outcome of this collaborative experiment is up to YOU. We count on your ideas and inputs! On the last day of the Unconference we will host a wrap-up report from each workshop, and a content and video screening evening.

- The Unconference is FREE to attend, but you’ll need to cover all the other costs including transport and accommodation.
- Travel Massive is negotiating deals with sponsors, so we might have access to some discounted accommodation and we are in contact with other transport partners.
- The Island hosts a great party at the 25th of July with international DJs including David Morales. The public entrance cost 50EUR but all Travel Massive members can enter for free.
